Almere

Discover the fun of boating close to home or experience Almere like never before from the water, even if you're from out of town!
With twice as many bridges as Venice - an impressive 800 in all - Almere is a paradise for water lovers. Our city is also the proud host of the world's first Water Mayor.
From the Weerwater, a lake located in the middle of Almere, you look out on Almere's beautiful Skyline. You can also see the Floriade 2022 island with the still present special buildings.
Escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy the tranquility of the beautiful Noorderplassen nature reserve. It is really worth exploring!
The Havenkom in Almere (see webcam below) is many meters lower (below sea level) than the rest of the waterway.

What could be better than a refreshing cruise right in the center of your own city?

TIP: Start your day early and pause along the way for a tasty lunch.

The starting point is the North Pier of the Waterwood Campground at nodes 24 and 88.

Beforehand, you can have a cup of coffee at Brasserie Tien. The tour leads across the Noorderplassen via junctions 19 and 81 to the residential area Noordeplassen-West. On the right is the island of La Isla Bonita (The Beautiful Island). In this small nature reserve you can see cattle grazing on the peninsula, sometimes walking through the water right in front of your boat. We sail through to the Beatrix Lock. This is a self-service lock. Push the button and the lock opens and you can sail in. There you press the button again.

Via the parkwetering you sail through the beautiful Beatrixpark to the Olstgracht until junction 32. Here you enter the Weerwater and pass the former Floriade. Moor at the city beach Esplanade. In the immediate vicinity are many restaurants to grab a bite to eat.

The trail continues through node 13 to the Leeghwaterplas at node 31. Again we go through a self-service lock towards the Hoge vaart (node 22). We turn left towards the Noorderplassen. At node 71 we turn left again towards the campsite. As a nice conclusion, you can moor at Brasserie Tien for a snack and a drink.

Sail through as far as the Beatrix Lock, this is a self-service lock. Press the button to activate the lock. When the lock opens sail in, never tie the mooring ropes (ropes)! The boat must be able to sink and rise with the water, otherwise the boat will get stuck or submerged. Are you well inside the lock? Then press the button there again.
As you sail out of the close you will go along the Parkwetering through the beautiful Beatrixpark to the Olstgracht until junction 32.
Here you enter the Weerwater and sail past the former Floriade. Moor at the city beach Esplanade. In the immediate vicinity are many restaurants for something to eat or drink.

The route continues via node 77 to the Kromme Wetering. Here you go through a self-service lock again towards node 39 (note: do not tie up the boat in the lock!).
As you sail out of the lock, you will see Almere Castle on the left; the youngest ruin in the Netherlands.
At junction 39, you can choose to turn right for a while towards Almere-Haven. You can moor there before the lock and enjoy a nice lunch or a drink on the terrace. You don't go through the lock here! Once back, you sail back to node 39.
Via the Lange Wetering you sail to junction 17. On the left side you see the Castle of Almere again and a little later along the Lange Wetering are beautiful houseboats.
After this, turn left toward the Noorderplassen.
At junction 71, turn left again toward Camping Waterhout.
For a fun ending, dock at Brasserie Ten for a bite to eat and a drink.
